FUNDRAISERS across Ryedale went red for the day in support of Comic Relief.

Schools and colleges raised funds for the annual Red Nose Day with a series of events and activities.

Malton School organised a day of fun including staff and students wearing something red; cake sales at break time; a staff versus Sixth Form grudge football match with a surprise losers’ punishment of pies in the face at the end of the game and a tug of war. Instead of having his beard shaved off Head of Sixth Form Mark Dent agreed to have his beard sprayed red for the day.

Pupils and staff at Terrington Hall School all came into school dressed in red and raised more than £500 through various fundraising activities throughout the day. These included a bumper cake and biscuit sale and facepainting stall run by the Year Seven and Eight pupils and the chance for pupils to vote for which members of staff would be the target of some well-aimed pies in the face.

Foston Primary School raised funds by dancing, while the school council at Leavening Primary organised a bake sale, face painting and 'pin the red nose on the face' games.

At Norton Primary School there was a one-mile sponsored run and teachers' obstacle race, as well as a 'design a bun' competition, red nose hunt and silly selfies.

Children at Gillamoor Primary School enjoyed a special Comic Relief cake and dressed up in red for a £1 donation raising £36.

Headteacher, Alison Tweddle said, “ Although this was a fun day, our Christian ethos is to show the children that there is a need to be loving and caring of all in our society and indeed abroad. The pupils already have close links with a school in Kenya and we hope to further extend our understanding of other cultures and religions in England.”
