MALTON’S monthly food market returned at the weekend after its winter break.

The market, which showcases some of the finest local Yorkshire produce, was held in the Market Place, and inside the Milton Rooms on Saturday.

Billed by organisers as one of Yorkshire’s most renowned specialist food markets, the event attracts thousands of foodie visitors to town.

With a host of free chef demonstrations, there was live cooking on stage with Talbot Hotel head chef Dan Graham and Luke Daniels, from the Weston Hotel in Scarborough.

Will Mckee, who began his career with the “Godfather” of modern cookery, Marco Pierre White, was also cooking live.

Visitors were also encouraged to check out some of the Made in Malton producers in Talbot Yard Food Court and with several new openings in the last few months there is more than ever to choose from in Malton.

Brass Castle Brewery’s new permanent Tap Room is the place for award-winning beer and YO Bakehouse’s café on Market Street has just expanded.

Tom Naylor-Leyland, director of the market, said: “It was great to have the food market back after the winter break and I’m pleased it was so well attended.

“Both bread stalls sold out and the vegan and vegetarian stall who had brought a huge amount of delicious eats sold out before 1pm.

“Malton clearly has an appetite for healthy food.”

Malton’s monthly food market will continue on the second Saturday of the month, apart from May, when the annual Food Lovers Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 27 and 28.
