A DENTIST is hoping to raise £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by having her head shaved.

Nicola Garner, a 31-year-old dentist at the Pickering Dental Health Practice, is to “brave the shave” on behalf of the charity on Wednesday, April 26.

She said: “The main reason I am doing it is that my mother-in-law has been diagnosed with cancer.

“When someone you love gets diagnosed with cancer, it changes everything. Then it’s personal.

“I thought this was a visible way of fundraising.

“I’m not that sporty, so I thought this was the best way of doing it.

“I always meant to raise money.”

Ms Garner plans to undergo a complete head shave in the afternoon of Wednesday, April 26, at the dental practice where she works.

“Everyone is welcome,” she said. “We are having a raffle and things and making an afternoon of it.”

She said she isn’t nervous yet about the transformation.

“It’ll be interesting,” she said. “I’ll have to get lots of woolly hats.

“I’m more nervous about having to explain it all beforehand to my little four-year-old girl.

“I don’t want her to get the fright of her life.”
