A YORK hotel was the location for a very special proposal this month.

Neal Seccombe, 33, from Newcastle knew his girlfriend Jessica Starkey loved a cup of tea, so contacted her favourite brand - Yorkshire Tea - to have a unique box specially made.

The pair, who both work as lecturers at Newcastle College, booked a Valentine’s romantic break at The Grand Hotel & Spa, where they first stayed at the beginning of their relationship two years ago.

Neal asked Jess if she wanted a cuppa, then presented her with the special box - personalised with Marry Me in place of the firm’s logo - which had the ring inside.

Neal said: “Jess is a big tea drinker, if you ask her if she wants a brew you can guarantee the answer will be a yes. So, when I began thinking about how I could pop the question, and make the moment as special as possible, it seemed like a no-brainer.

“I was delighted when they agreed to get involved and I really appreciate the help; I actually think Jess is more excited about the box than the ring.

"I had originally planned to propose in December but postponed it to just after Valentine’s Day to make sure it was perfect.

"I was so nervous, but think I kept my cool long enough to ensure it was a real surprise.”

Jess said: “I had absolutely no idea Neal was going to propose, I was in total shock, but luckily we had chance to calm down with a brew afterwards.

"I really love the thought and effort he put into the proposal, which makes it extra special.”
