THREE people were taken to hospital following a serious crash east of York.
The A1079 was closed near Dunnington, following the crash at about 12.30pm, and heavy traffic built up as a result.
A police spokeswoman said the crash involved two vehicles, a Fiat 500x and a Volkswagen Golf special edition.
The 73-year-old man driving the Fiat was airlifted to LGI, with serious injuries which police said were not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the Golf, a 79-year-old man, and his 72-year-old passenger were both taken to York Hospital with minor injuries.
Heavy traffic built up on the A1079 for more than two hours after the crash, and the road was reopened at about 3.15pm.
