A STROLL through snowdrops and a pancake-based coffee morning are both in the diary for this weekend, each one raising money for a new church roof.

The gardens of Headon Cottage, Wydale, near Scarborough and the grounds of Wydale Hall, will be open to the public for a Snowdrop Walk on Sunday, February 26 from 11am until 3pm.

This is the first time these gardens have been open to the public at this time of year.

The gardens are being opened to help raise money for the St Stephen’s church, Snainton new roof appeal.

This village church was built around 1825. The original roof is now in a poor state of repair, and leaking badly.

Maps for the Walk will be on sale from Wydale Hall, YO13 9DG, which is situated in the heart of the countryside between the villages of Snainton and Brompton-by-Sawdon on the A170, approximately midway between Scarborough and Pickering.

Adults £5, children go free, and dogs on short leads are allowed in the gardens but not in the Hall itself.

Mugs of hot soup, as well as tea/coffee and cakes will be on sale. Parking will be signposted. For further information telephone 01723 859843 or 859130.

The day before – Saturday, February 25, will be Pancake Saturday in Snainton.

Snainton Village Hall will be open to drop-ins from 11am for morning coffee followed by a choice of homemade soups and pancakes with a choice of toppings.

There will also be a raffle, tombola, cake and handicraft stalls, all raising money for St Stephen’s Church Roof Appeal.

Fundraising for the new roof officially started last May and just short of £15,000 was raised by December.
