SHOPPERS are being encouraged to support their local communities with a new initiative.
The Co-op Local Community Fund is funded by a new membership scheme, as well cash generated from carrier bags sales and the profits from the group’s reusable bags. Charities are supported for six months with the Co-op’s Pickering store currently raising funds for the 1st Vale of Pickering Scouts, Pickering Explorer Scouts and Sight Support Ryedale. The shop in Helmsley is supporting the town’s arts centre and Helmsley Sports and Social Club.
Pickering store manager Julie Robinson said: “Co-op exists to support their members and the communities where they live. This is a great way of giving money back to local charities and the community.”
