A RYEDALE equine veterinary practice has been nominated for three awards at a forthcoming industry awards show.

Rainbow Equine Hospital in Malton is up for a trio of gongs, including two Vet of the Year nominations for Moses Brennan and Ieuan Pritchard, and also an overall Practice of the Year nomination for the firm itself.

The nominations are for the Petplan Veterinary Awards 2017.

Lorraine Colgan, at Rainbow Equine Hospital, said: “We are delighted to have the three nominations.

“We have had vets nominated for the past few years and it’s nice that our clients take the time to think of us.”

All nominees are judged by an independent panel of leading professionals from the veterinary industry, including presidents of the veterinary and nursing associations and previous winners of these awards. Petplan themselves are not part of the judging panel.

There are five award categories in total - three finalists will be selected in each category in early March. The winners will be published on April 7.

Rainbow Equine Hospital has also announced this week that a colleague at the practice has passed a qualification in diagnostic imaging, making the practice one of only a few in the country with this capability.

Imaging specialist Jonathon Dixon passed the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging diploma examinations in Switzerland last week to be recognised as a European specialist in diagnostic imaging.

Mr Dixon said: “I am absolutely delighted to have passed these exams to become a specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.

“This has been the culmination of three years of further study leading to a unique qualification.

“This allows us at Rainbow Equine Hospital to continue to push the boundaries or Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.”

Ms Colgan said: “Only a handful of private equine hospitals in the UK have a specialist radiologist on site to be able to perform and interpret MRI, CT and scintigraphy.

“Jonathon oversees these cases and assists with radiography and ultrasonography to ensure that all horses coming to the hospital benefit from state-of-the-art diagnostics.

“Jonathon works closely with the specialists in surgery and internal medicine in the hospital to provide a level of combined expertise that is unique in the region.

“Very well done Jonathon from all of us at Rainbow, we’re privileged to have you as part of our team.”
