RYEDALE School welcomed back its former Year 11 students for a presentation evening to celebrate their achievements at GCSE.

The evening included an address from former head boy and girl, Jack Stott and Grace Walker, along with entertainment from musician Lizzie Dore.

The following students were presented with a subject award or a special award on the evening: English: Jac Thomas, Ceri Stone; maths: Rebekah Lally; triple science: Ceri Stone; double science: Jack Stott; art: Eddie Thompson; design technology: Mhairi Maxwell; food technology: Helen Coppack; dance: Molly Bentley; drama: Rebekah Lally; French: Ceri Stone; German: Helen Coppack; foreign languages: Mhairi Maxwell; geography: Grace Walker; history: Elizabeth Dore; ICT: Rhianna Fletcher; music: Ceri Stone; performing arts: Rebekah Lally; and physical education: Grace Walker.

The Wrightson Trophy: Ceri Stone (for academic excellence – best examination results – 9A*), The Mike Scott Award: Grace Walker (for supportive leadership), The Thelma Guy Award: Matthew Smith (for exceptional achievement), The Heather Linley Award: Christopher Carpenter (for exceptional progress) and The Michael Foster Award: Lily Hamilton (for service to school and community).

Headteacher Mark McCandless said: "This cohort achieved an incredible Progress 8 score of 0.43 which places Ryedale School in the top seven per cent of schools in the country - well done the class of 2016.

"Seventy-one per cent of students achieved C grades in English and maths, and 28 per cent of every exam paper taken was graded at an A*/A; a tremendous achievement and testimony to the cohorts’ dedication and hard work.

"Most importantly, students of all abilities achieved success and their individual achievements were recognised on this fantastic evening, attended by students, parents and staff."
