RESIDENTS in York and across the region have woken up to snow this morning, which is causing hazardous driving conditions on some roads.

Accidents today include:

  • This school bus skidded off the road in Sleights, narrowly missing houses
  • The A64 was temporarily closed after a Suzuki 4x4 and a Mercedes van crashed at East Heslerton at 7.45am. The 4x4 driver, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital in Scarborough with a suspected leg injury. The road is now open
  • A Vauxhall Corsa overturned on the A170 at Sutton Bank near Thirsk at 7am, following a collision with a Kia 4x4. It is believed no-one was injured and the road has now reopened
  • A female passenger in a vehicle which overturned at Boltby Bank, near Thirsk, was airlifted to hospital. The North Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Group tweeted: "One to hospital with hopefully only minor injuries." Emergency services were called to the crash at about 9.10am
  • There was a collision on the A19 in Riccall, involving a Renault Scenic which left the road. Police were called to the incident at 8.45am. There were no reports of any injuries and traffic in the area is now moving freely
  • There has been a crash on the B1249 at Staxton Hill, which temporarily closed the road
  • Two vehicles have crashed on the B1249 near Langtoft, East Yorkshire. The road was blocked
  • Police say there have been a number of collisions across the Ryedale and Scarborough area

North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have urged motorists to take care on the roads.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of ice for the area. It says ice is expected to form on untreated surfaces.
