STUDENTS at Malton School have donated their old text books to charity following a technology upgrade.

When the school equipped its students with iPads, it left a mountain of text books that were no longer needed.

A group of students wanted to put the texts to good use so came up with the idea of asking the various school departments for their unwanted books to donate to charity.

The Year 11 students collected more than 250 books from the maths, history, engineering and science departments among others, before finding a local charity who would be happy to take them.

With the help of Neil Lockhart, Malton School’s site manager, the students took the books to the British Heart Foundation in Scarborough.

Year 11 student Matty Godrich said: “We would like to thank all the departments for donating the books and for the British Heart Foundation for taking them. Thanks also to our teachers Mrs Wilson who helped us find a local charity to donate the books to, Miss Spiers, Mrs Wilcock and Mrs Ward.”

Matty was helped by fellow students in Year 11 Monique Preston, Rowan Lyall, Isabelle Donaldson, Sophie Pennock, Harriety McKinley, Shannon Bell and Lucy Jeffrey.
