EMERGENCY services were called to the York to Scarborough railway line at Haxby after a dog was hit by a train yesterday evening.

There were initial fears that a person had been hit by a TransPennine Express service and a number of 999 vehicles were called to the scene.

It turned out that a large dog had got onto the tracks and had been killed when it was hit by the train at about 7pm.

York Press:

A spokesperson for TransPennine Express said: “We can confirm that our 16:22 Liverpool to Scarborough service hit a large dog last night in the Haxby area. The incident caused delays and cancellations to train services.”
