A ROTARY club has helped a former Norton College student take part in a week-long leadership camp.
Katie Wakefield, 18, was sponsored by Malton and Norton Rotary Club to attend a week-long Rotary Youth Leadership Award camp at Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire.
During the week, Katie and others from all over the Yorkshire region, had to undertake a series of outward bound type activities. under the guidance of Rotary volunteers.
She said: “This week has had a major impact on my life. I was faced with people I had never met before and lots of different challenging physical and mental tasks. I learnt lots of new skills including teamwork and leadership. I would encourage anyone aged 16-18 in the area to apply to the Malton and Norton Rotary Club for sponsorship to go on the RYLA course.”
Colin Jennings, president of Malton and Norton Rotary Club, added: “We, as a club strongly support activities involving young people. We were delighted to sponsor Katie and really enjoyed hearing about her week of activities at a recent club meeting.”
