PLANS for a large housing development in an East Yorkshire village have been turned down.
Gladman Developments was seeking outline planning consent to build up to 210 new homes on land north west of The Lodge in Stamford Bridge.
The application went before East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s planning committee, who refused it in line with the recommendation of Alan Menzies, the authority’s director of planning and economic regeneration.
Mr Menzies said: “The proposal for residential development lies within the open countryside outside of the development limits of Stamford Bridge as defined in the East Riding Local Plan.”
He added: “The level of traffic associated with the proposed residential development and the introduction of a new priority junction on to the A166 is unnecessary and would contribute to existing traffic congestion associated with the single lane signal controlled bridge over the River Derwent.”
This was the third application for a major housing development in Stamford Bridge in the last couple of years. Plans for a development consisting of 192 homes and another with 200 properties have already been approved.
