ANTI-FRACKING protestors have demonstrated outside Barclays bank in Malton this morning, protesting against the bank's support for shale gas companies.
Around 50 demonstrators, some dressed in Halloween witch costumes, gathered in the October sunshine outside the Yorkersgate branch.
The protest kicks off a week of nationwide action against Barclays' support of the fracking industry.
Josie Downs of Frack Free Malton and Norton said: "Barclays still seem bewitched by fracking. Let’s break the spell this Halloween!
"Barclays themselves recently predicted a ‘transfer of wealth’ from fossil fuel investments to renewable energy, so why on earth are they not following their own advice?"
Barclays Bank is a large shareholder in Ryedale gas company Third Energy, whose planning application to carry out hydraulic fracturing at Kirby Misperton is currently been challenged by judicial review - due to be heard in the High Court in late November.
