STUDENTS celebrated Norton College's best exam results at the school's annual presentation evening.

Year 11 students, most of whom are now in the sixth form at Norton College, and Year 13 leavers were invited to come into school to celebrate their achievements.

Overall 74 per cent of students in Year 11 achieved A* - C in English and maths, up from 73 per cent last year.

Rachel Medley, organiser and assistant learning co-ordinator for Year 10, said: “The annual presentation evening had such a great atmosphere. There were lots of smiles and hugs and genuine warmth between staff, parents, carers and students.

"Some of the students were quite emotional to have their names read out, and then have to make their way up to collect a trophy or certificate. They really do understand about the journey they’ve been on since Year 7 and the enormous amount of hard work they’ve put in. It’s a privilege to be there.”

Headteacher Phil Loftus said: “Here at Norton College we have a belief in brilliance. It shows in our results. We know we have created an excellent climate for learning and the students know they have to develop resilience, but that particular quality is what helps them reach the top and be the best they can be.”

Emily Kellett, Year 12 student and winner of the languages cup and the student achieving the highest GCSE grades, added: “I would put my success down to hard work, asking a lot of questions in lessons and just enjoying the subject. Norton College is a great place to learn. It’s small enough to know everybody; you know the teachers and they know you."
