Threat to children greater than ever It has never been easy being a parent in any generation, but I do not envy parents of young children in today’s technological age. The case of pervert Darren Simpson (The Press, September 27) is appalling. How easy he found it through the internet to trick and “virtually” seduce under-age girls and boys.

It was much simpler in my parenting days, as the only peer pressure on my boys was for a better bike or the latest trainers. Making them appreciate things by paying part of the cost through saving their pocket money and paper-round earnings was a doddle compared to today.

It may be harsh, and you definitely won’t be your children’s flavour of the month, but the only solution I can see is to not allow any access to a computer at home until they are at least 16. “Grandad, you are a dinosaur” is a common theme from my sons’ little munchkins, but being unpopular for the right reasons takes resolve. Our youngsters need protection from the net’s dirty-mac brigade.
