TWO men have been arrested after a motorcyclist died in a crash with a car on Sunday.

Police are appealing for information after the biker was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash near Stamford Bridge.

North Yorkshire Police were called to the scene in Buttercrambe Road at 4.15pm on Sunday after a crash involving a grey and yellow Yamaha motorbike and black Honda saloon car.

The motorbike rider – a man aged in his late 30s – received medical attention at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said they are not yet in a position to name him and investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing today.

Nearby roads were closed to allow emergency services to tend to the crash and Yorkshire Ambulance Service and police remained on the scene for several hours throughout Sunday.

Two men from West Yorkshire were arrested in connection with the crash and have been released on bail while investigations continue.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles involved before the crash.

Anyone with information should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for Sean Grey, or e-mail sean.grey@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or lee.cobb@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk and quote reference number 12160174963 when passing on information.

The man was the second motorcyclist to die on Sunday after another man, aged in his 50s, died in Kirkby Lane.

The biker was travelling from Sicklinghall towards Netherby, when his BMW bike was involved in a crash with a Volkswagon Polo.
