FIRE crews from around Ryedale were called to a huge fire at a timber yard on Saturday, August 20.
The fire service got the call just before 4pm in the afternoon. Fire engines from Scarborough attended at the timber yard on Barker's Lane, Snainton. Such was the scale of the fire, they called for extra engines, with backup attending from Malton, Kirkbymoorside and Huntington, bringing the total number of engines present to five.
The fire was raging across a large, open air site, estimated at around 600 square metres. The crews battled the fire with main jets, hosereel jets and an aerial platform.
A fire spokesperson said that the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, with some controlled burning getting out of hand and spreading to the timber.
The fire services scaled down the incident later in the evening around half past 7, and continued to visit the site over the next two days, only declaring that the incident could be closed on Monday.
