SCAMPSTON Walled Garden is hosting a series of events to celebrate the 300th birthday of landscape architect Capability Brown.

Throughout August, Scampston will be running a series of events which will celebrate the mark that Capability Brown has left on the English landscape and the parkland he created at the hall and garden.

Heritage volunteers will be leading a number of guided walks through the parkland at Scampston to help visitors identify key features and nuances of Brown’s landscapes.

"Walking in the Footsteps of Mr Brown" guided tours will take place on August 11, 18, 25, and 29, all at 1.30pm.

There will also be a family fun day, taking place on August 23, which will explore the lake created by Brown and the bug-life within it. There will be crafts, guided family walks and pond dipping on offer. The event is free, and is aimed to engage young families in Capability Brown’s work.

Chris Legard, owner of Scampston Hall, said: “We are thrilled to offer such a diverse repertoire of events for all age groups in recognition of the beautiful landscape that Brown designed for my ancestors in the 18th century.

“Whether you are a history buff, or just enjoy a good old fashioned slice of cake – there is something to get everyone interested in the work of Brown.”
