ST MARY'S Priory Church, in Old Malton, is hosting an open gardens and scarecrow trail on Saturday and Sunday, from 1pm to 5pm.

About seven gardens will be open over the weekend, along with 20 scarecrows in the trail.

Churchwarden Helen Morgan said they had held an open gardens a couple of years ago and decided to expand the event to include a scarecrow trail.

"We thought it would be something different and give those who didn't want to open their gardens the opportunity to take part by making a scarecrow," she said.

Programmes are £3.50 and available from St Mary's Community Centre where there will also be refreshments, tombola and plant stall. The winner drawn from entries to the scarecrow trail will win a £10 voucher.

Funds raised will go towards repairing the church floor.
