A POLICE chase which lasted at least half an hour ended with a car crashing into a wall.

The chase began after a silver Honda CRV failed to stop in the Earswick area of York at about 12.45am today.

The pursuit continued on the A64 eastbound and on to Pickering then the A170. Police used a stinger to stop the car.

Four men, all from Hartlepool, who are aged, 28, 27, 26 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle.

The driver was also arrested for dangerous driving, having no licence or insurance and giving a positive test for drug driving.

Sergeant Paul Cording, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "I'm not sure of timings but [the pursuit lasted] at least half an hour I would guess."

He added: "Obviously it could have been serious as the driver had put themselves, other occupants, ourselves and the wider public at risk, although due to the time of night there was minimal traffic on the road."

The men all remain in police custody.
