A RECORD number of ducks entered the annual Slingsby Duck Race at the weekend.

The event, which was celebrating its 25th anniversary, is organised by the Friends of Slingsby School (FOSS), as part of a family fun day to boost school funds.

Committee secretary Liz Wilson said: “We sold a record 1,950 ducks at the duck race on Saturday - the first duck to cross the finish line was sponsored by Helena Ebbs, a parent at the school who won £60. Second place went to Samuel Palmer and third was S Wilkinson.

"FOSS has set itself the target of raising about £8,000 from events throughout the year," she said.

“This money will be spent on a Christmas party for the children, for educational visits into school and outdoor equipment and other resources for the school.”
