A HAIRDRESSER who lost her father to cancer has raised hundreds of pounds in his memory.
Amanda Smith, from Norton, took part in the Race for Life in York which raises funds for Cancer Research UK.
Her dad John Sollitt died of cancer last year, aged 82, just a month after being diagnosed.
Amanda, who works at Escape hair salon in Finkle Street, Malton, said: "It was the first time I had done any running, but I had a really good day and managed to complete the course in 40 minutes.
"I have been amazed at how many people who knew my dad have made a donation - it has been quire overwhelming.
"I have so far raised £742 and would like to thank everyone who has donated. I would certainly like to keep up the fundraising and do it again next year."
