A RESTAURANT manager has been given a special award by Pickering Rotary Club.
Each year the club selects an individual who has contributed to the local community in some special way.
This year the manager of the Spice 4 U in Pickering Abdul Goffar was selected.
Rotary President Drew Haigh said: "Abdul has been the manager of Spice 4 U since 2002 and has always been very keen for the restaurant to be seen as part of the local community in Pickering, and to this end the business has sponsored many local charities, and clubs such as Pickering Rotarians, Macmillan Cancer, Yorkshire Cancer research, Pickering Knights Football Club, Pickering Under 10s football team, Pickering Five-a-side Football League and Kirkbymoorside Golf Club, plus many other fundraising events held at the Spice 4 U.
"Over the past four years Rotary with the Spice 4U team has raised some £8,000 for local charities, the most recent event in February this year raising £3,500 for Marie Curie."
Drew added: "Abdul resides in Leeds, but still views himself, and his business as very much an integral part of day to day life in Pickering. Whenever, he can he gives most generously to Pickering community events and Pickering Rotarians consider him a most worthy winner of the 2016 Rotary Service Before Self Award."
