EIGHT pupils in Year 8 at Terrington School have been awarded academic, music and sport scholarships to senior schools across the country.

Academic scholarships were awarded to head boy Billy Watkinson who won an Alington scholarship to Shrewsbury, Tommy Hudson who will go to St Peter's and to Ella White who carried off both an academic and a sport scholarship to The Mount in York.

The Mount also awarded a music scholarship to Emily Tyson, while Bobby James won a Basil Hume award to Ampleforth for excellence in drama and tennis.

Sports scholarships were awarded to Emily Breese (Glenalmond), James Naylor (Sedbergh), and George Welch (Sedbergh).

Terrington Hall School headmaster Stephen Mulryne said: "I am thrilled with the range of scholarships won by our Year Eight pupils to schools across the country. We work hard at Terrington Hall to ensure that each child develops his or her talents and interests to the full, whether that be in academia, music, drama or sport.

"First and foremost, however, we are a happy school, and happy children thrive."

Meanwhile, the school's drama students have "swept the board" with a 100 per cent pass rate in the Trinity College Individual Acting exams. Six pupils passed with distinction and seven passed with merit.

Drama teacher Audrie Woodhouse said: "I am so proud of all the students. They have proved to themselves not only that they can do it, but also that they can do it in style. Special mention must be made of Olympia Storey who gained a distinction for the fourth time."
