ORGANISERS of this year’s Malton Show say they are delighted with how the day went with additional attractions proving a great success.

Celebrating its 130th anniversary, the show was once again held at Scampston Park, near Rillington, on Sunday.

Alan Tate-Smith, chairman of the Malton Agricultural Society, said: “It was really nice to walk round the show with our president Richard Hopkinson and see the support for the show and talk to people who appreciated the work that has been put in.

“We are certainly not afraid to try new things and I am pleased to see how well the new attractions, including more have-a-go activities, and the classic car section have been received.

“It has been a great day and we would love to hear from anyone who would like to get involved in next year’s show.”

Secretary Anne Welham said the day raised £600 for the show’s charity, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

“This is my first year as secretary and I think the show went very well with numbers up in most sections,” she said.

“Of course the show wouldn’t happen without all the help and time people give so willingly. Every one of them is a cog in the wheel and I would like to thank them all.”

Richard Hopkinson, president of this year’s Malton Show, follows in his parents’ footsteps as they both served as presidents in the past.

The retired owner and managing director of R Yates & Sons Ltd, Malton, has also worked at Malton Show on his company stand every year for the last 56 years.

He said: “I was very honoured to be president of Malton Show this year and very pleased with how it went.

“Scampston is a lovely showground and we were very lucky with the weather.

“This year was the first time in 56 years that I had a day off at Malton Show and it was great to be able to walk round and see all the attractions as well as chatting to people.”
