MALTON Ladies Luncheon Club has celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday with a special event.

Members meet at the Forest and Vale Hotel in Pickering on the third Thursday of every month for lunch and to listen to a speaker.

More than 50 ladies attended the event to mark the Queen's birthday and, after being welcomed with a celebratory spritzer, were "royally" entertained by The Vintage Rhythms Dance Band. They also enjoyed a buffet provided by The Forest and Vale Hotel. After the meal there was a musical quiz, with hand made chocolates awarded to the winning table.

Secretary Tricia Pearce said: "The decor for the day was in a soft lilac. Some talented members of the committee made special bunting, colour co-ordinating floral decorations and table napkins and each lady present received a souvenir invitation menu card. Eight members whose lucky number were drawn out of the hat were able to take home the floral arrangements.

"The cardboard cut out of the Queen was provided, courtesy of the Clock Restaurant, Scarborough, in return for a donation to the Little Foot Trust, a charity which provides for children from disadvantaged backgrounds to be taken on holiday."

The club now enters a summer recess and will meet next on Thursday, September 15.
