RYEDALE once again rocked to three very different acts in Dalby Forest at the weekend.

The Forest Live concerts run by the Forestry Commission, in aid of woodland conservation and development, kicked off on Friday night with singer-songwriter Guy Garvey, who also fronts Elbow, ahead of a Glastonbury slot, followed by John Newman on Saturday evening and the Kaiser Chiefs on Sunday.

Concert-goers saw a full range of summer weather, from sunshine and showers, to more persistent rain which failed to damper the enthusiasm of those gathering to see Yorkshire favourite's the Kaiser Chiefs.

Frontman Ricky Wilson was on top form and happy to keep the squirrels awake with a storming set. Despite the weather, the band promised to keep going until everyone was "100 per cent entertained" and with an encore including "Oh My God".

Organisers of the concerts said about 13,500 people had enjoyed the three days of live music.

Tanya Rex, recreation and public affairs manager at the Forestry Commission, said: “Once again we’ve had three fantastic nights of live music in the forest.

"Thousands of concert goers enjoyed the beautiful forest setting and brilliant sets from Guy Garvey, John Newman and Kaiser Chiefs," she said.

"The crowds seemed to really love the Yorkshire connections of John Newman and the Kaisers, too. A big thanks from us to everyone – we had really friendly crowds and lots of helpful volunteers. Here’s to next year."
