FOOTBALL pundit Chris Kamara has backed a Yorkshire Building Society football-themed fundraiser in Malton which the society hopes will shoot it towards its £1m target for its Hour of Need campaign.

The society's branch in Wheelgate will be inviting customers and the public to support Marie Curie tomorrow.

There will be football-themed cakes for sale, and customers and the public can enter a football sweepstake and guess the sweets in a jar competition, with every £20 funding one hour of Marie Curie nursing care.

Chris Kamara said: "There has been some unbelievable fundraising happening for Marie Curie, thanks to Yorkshire Building Society’s Hour of Need campaign.

"Customers and colleagues from around the country have so far helped to raise a fantastic £900,000 and with continued support, we can help them on their way to reaching their £1m goal."

Julie Rhodes, manager of the Malton branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: "The Hour of Need campaign is having a real impact on terminally ill people and their families and we will continue to raise even more money throughout the rest of the year."

The society’s Hour of Need campaign was launched in 2014 with the aim of raising £500,000 by December 2016. The current total standing at more than £900,000.
