A 19-YEAR-OLD woman has died following a crash in North Yorkshire.

A blue Mercedes C220, in which she was travelling, overturned and hit a tree and a metal gate post on an unclassified road near Kirby Misperton in Ryedale.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service alerted police at 3.22pm on Thursday. The woman was a rear-seat passenger in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman is from Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Her family have been informed about the death and are receiving support from the police while the investigation continues."

The car driver, a 27-year-old man from Thornaby, suffered minor facial injuries and was treatment at York Hospital.

He was arrested and remains in police custody for questioning.

The spokesman said: "A 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, also from Thornaby, were also passengers in the car and required treatment for minor injuries. They have also been arrested in connection with the collision and are being held in custody for questioning."
