THE two-year-old girl who was hit by a 4x4 last week has died from her injuries, police have confirmed.

The collision took place on Thursday, June 16, at around 6.15pm on Lockton Road in Whitby.

The child was taken by ambulance to James Cook Hospital in a critical condition, but she died the day after from her injuries.

Police have said that an investigation is ongoing and they are continuing to appeal to any witnesses who were in Lockton Road or Fyling Road area, or anyone who may have witnessed the child or a black 4x4 car prior to the incident, to come forward and contact them.

The child was wearing pink and purple trousers and a white coat with pink and purple flowers and an insect print.

Specially-trained officers are continuing to provide support to the child's family.

Officers from Whitby's Safer Neighbourhood Team are continuing patrols in the area to gather any further information about the incident and provide reassurance to local residents.
