TWO police officers were injured in separate incidents over the weekend.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed that two of their officers suffered minor injuries at incidents around the county on Sunday, May 29.

In the first incident, a male officer was injured when a man resisted arrest while police were responding to a domestic incident at a property in Eastfield on Sunday morning.

A police spokeswoman said the officer sustained an injury to his eye, but was able to remain on duty following the incident.

In the second incident, a female officer was injured during a search for a missing 90-year-old woman near Kirkbymoorside on Sunday night.

Police officers joined Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team in the five-hour search, during which the police dog handler injured her ankle and was later taken to hospital by ambulance.

The elderly woman was found about 1.5km away from her home, and was taken to Scarborough Hospital.

This week, figures obtained by The Press showed an increase in injuries to officers in the line of duty had led to the North Yorkshire Police Federation and senior police officers agreeing to an increase in Taser training for officers.

Currently, less than 20 per cent of officers are trained to use Tasers. NYPF figures showed 44 officers have been injured in the line of duty since January, while the number injured on duty in 2014/15 was 30.
