THE Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team joined North Yorkshire Police in a search for a missing 90-year-old woman.

The woman, from Gillamoor, near Kirkbymoorside, left home at about 3pm on Sunday to go for a walk to Douthwaite, and had left a note describing her route but did not return.

A spokesman for the mountain rescue team said 13 members were deployed for five hours as they carried out searches of the grounds around the property and had planned wider searches, but later received reports the woman had been found about 1.5km away from the house by a member of the public.

The team sent a doctor to the find site to treat the casualty while the team organised extraction and transportation to awaiting ambulance. The casualty was then transported by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to Scarborough Hospital.

A police dog handler was also treated for a suspected sprained or broken right ankle, and was taken to her home address by her husband.
