PICKERING Game and Country Fair celebrated its 12th anniversary with a weekend of entertainment for all the family.

Held for the first time at Scampston Hall, near Malton, the two-day event included an arena programme, including showjumping and a heavy horse show.

There was also a demonstration by the K92000 dog display team and Mounted Games Association of Great Britain whose riders competed on horseback in a series of tough challenges against the clock.

Families were able to join in the fun with their pets in a fun dog show, as well as a dog agility course, available for the novice to have-a-go and also those wishing to compete against the clock.

Taking place on both days, ferrets, as well as terriers and lurchers, took part in fast-paced racing and shows organised by Alan Tyer, chairman of the Association of Lurcher Clubs.

National clay pigeon shooting also took place during the weekend and visitors to the fair were able to put their trigger power to the test by taking part in various challenges from each discipline from beginners to advanced.

New for 2016 was a reptile marquee, which included snakes, spiders and one of the most poisonous reptiles in the world.

Pickering Game and Country Fair also played host to the UK Tractor Show with hundreds of tractors on display, many of which also took part in competitions in the tractor pulling arena.

Event organiser Richard Ashworth said: "Saturday's attendance was effected by the poor forecast. However, people had obviously taken this into account when planning to attend and decided to come along on the Sunday. The event was very busy on Sunday as we had two days visitors attending that day. We received a lot of positive feedback in regard to the new venue."
