POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information about a distraction burglary, involving bogus officials.

During the afternoon of Monday, May 2, two men gained entry to an elderly man's home on Lowdale Avenue, Scarborough by claiming to be plain clothes CID police officers.

Once inside the property, one man distracted the occupier whilst the second stole property.

The men then left, advising that they would return an hour later to check on him, stating "Don't call the police, we will call you".

Officers are appealing for more information and particularly from other residents who may have had similar calls at their homes.

They are also advising residents to always ask for identification from any callers claiming to be police officers.
