ABOUT 200 tractors are taking part in this year's Beadlam Tractor Run on Sunday.

Held for the 14th year, the event has raised more than £80,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Organised by the Simpson family, tractors start from Beadlam Grange Farm at 9.30am.

Drivers will travel to Fadmoor, Kirkbymoorside and Hutton-le-Hole before stopping to eat lunch at Spaunton.

They will then come back through Lastingham and Cropton before arriving back in Beadlam, having covered about 50 miles.

Olive Simpson said they were hoping to get to £100,000 with funds raised from this year's run.

"We have all sorts of tractors taking part including vintage," she said. "People come from all over the country and we usually have about 200 taking part."

Mrs Simpson said Kirkbymoorside Brass Band would parade in front of the tractors as usual from the top of Castlegate to the bottom of the Market Place.

"We are also hoping the Yorkshire Air Ambulance will be able to come along on the day so people can have a look in it," she said.

"There is a really good atmosphere and we always have plenty of spectators, especially if the weather is nice."

Staff from Beadlam Grange Farmshop and Tearoom will be taking part in a sponsored 100-Mile Cycle Challenge in support of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance on the same day.

Angela Rooke of the tearoom said: "Our butcher, Paul Nicholson, came up with the idea of pedalling 100 miles on his exercise bike. It's a big challenge and we are all going to take our turn - with Paul cycling the first 90 miles.

"We will welcome everyone’s support and encouragement."

Jenny Rooke, one of the owners of the tearoom, said: "What a day we are going to have."
