A NORTON-based choir has won three trophies at a regional festival.

Harmonia choir, was placed first in three classes at the National Choir Day at the Eskdale Festival in Whitby.

The choir, which was formed in 2008 by Alison Davis, has gone from strength to strength and now boasts 57 members who come from various parts of Ryedale.

This was the third time that Harmonia have entered the Eskdale Festival and each year they have improved their position.

The classes they won were, Songs From the Shows, Christmas in April and the highlight of the evening the Choir Recital.

The Recital is the culmination of the whole day, when, this year, eight choirs went head to head. Each choir has twelve minutes to showcase what they can do and impress the adjudicator. Harmonia’s programme began with Eatnemen Vuelie from the Disney film Frozen, followed by the jazz classic At Last and finishing with the spiritual Wade in the Water.

Alison , who also performs and teaches singing at Ryedale School, said Harmonia were thrilled to win one trophy but to come away with three made for a very exciting day.

“ The choir have worked so hard to reach such a high standard of performance and they thoroughly deserved these trophies," she added.

Harmonia regularly sing for local charities and their next concert is on June 18 in aid of St.Leonard and St.Mary’s Church, Malton.
