VISIT Ryedale is asking people to nominate their favourite walks in the area.

The tourism team at Ryedale District Council is working with digital walking guide business iFootpath to create walking guides from the five market towns in Ryedale - Malton, Norton, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley.

The walking guides will include all the best features of traditional guide books with turn-by-turn directions, photography and information about the history and the environment.

Four walks of up to six miles from each town, including linear routes using public transport, will be created.

The guides will then be available on the iFootpath iPhone or Android App and visitors will be able to follow their real-time progress with a GPS powered live map and even add comments and ratings.

Each walk will be able to be printed out and provided at Visitor Information Points throughout Ryedale.

The project is part of the Ryedale Market Town initiative, to encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more in and around the towns.

If you have a favourite walk, email a brief description and map of the route and your contact details to Craig Nattress, Visitor Economy Officer at craig.nattress@ryedale.gov.uk or post them to Ryedale House, Old Malton, YO17 7HH, by March 31.

One walk will then be picked at random to win a £20 voucher at a Ryedale outdoor equipment retailer of your choice.
