PLANS for an additional 87 homes have been submitted for a housing development in Malton.

The extra properties are part of a scheme on The Showfield site in Pasture Lane which will part-fund the proposed new livestock market and business centre on the outskirts of Old Malton.

Ryedale District Council's planning committee approved plans by Commercial Development Projects (CDP) and the Fitzwilliam Trust Corporation to build 227 homes on The Showfield site in August 2014.

A scheme for 35 homes on land south of Westgate, in OId Malton, and 50 affordable homes in Rainbow Lane, Malton, was also approved.

First unveiled three years ago, the housing developments are part of an interlinked package of proposals, which will provide for the relocation of Malton's livestock market to a new agri-business centre and business park on land next to Eden Camp, creating about 800 to 1,000 new jobs and attracting investment of about £20m into the district.

The project is being developed by CDP in partnership with Malton and Ryedale Farmers Livestock Market Company and Fitzwilliam Trust Corporation.

Landlord of the existing livestock market site, the Fitzwilliam Malton Estate, has secured planning consent to redevelop the site.

Charles Vyvyan, from CDP, said: “Through the detailed design process for the Showfield Lane site, the plans have been tweaked to include another 87 homes, still within the boundaries of the original proposals.

A revised planning application is now with the district council and the extra homes will allow a full mix of properties on this development.

He added: "These extra properties on the site will provide much needed new housing in Malton.”

Linden Homes is currently on site for the first phase on this development site.
