A PRIVATE screening of the new Dad's Army film has been put on for some of its younger extras.

Members, families and supporters of the 1st Vale of Pickering scout group went to the showing at the Palace cinema in Malton.

The scouts appear in an army parade scene in the film. The scene was filmed in Bridlington's Old Town, which was used as a stand-in for the fictional Walmington-on-Sea where the story is set.

Ray Bowman, leader of the group, said: "They had a fantastic time filming it. There was a full day of shooting - it took between 10 and 20 takes to get it right."

The 1st Vale group has been going since 1910.

Dad's Army was filmed in several locations in North and East Yorkshire. The film is set during 1944, close to the end of the Second World War. In Walmington-on-Sea, Captain Mainwaring's Home Guard suffers from low morale until a glamorous journalist arrives to report on the platoon's exploits. The film had its general release nationwide on February 5.
