IMPROVEMENT works will take place along a 50-mile stretch of the A64.

Resurfacing work at Scagglethorpe will take place overnight until Friday, from 8pm to 6am.

The road will be fully closed with traffic being diverted along the A169 and A170.

On Monday, work is due to start on installing new pedestrian islands in Ganton and East and West Heslerton.

Work is due to start on Monday in Ganton, Monday, February 15 in West Heslerton and finally on Monday, February 22, in East Heslerton.

It is expected that work will take about five weeks at each location.

This work will mainly be carried out during the day from 9.30am to 3.30pm with temporary traffic lights in place.

Some work will be carried out at night when traffic will be led through the roadworks by a contractor’s vehicle in convoys.

All work is dependent on reasonable weather conditions.

Highways England project manager Adeeb Saeed said: “We are carrying out a series of improvements along the A64 between Bramham and Staxton over the next few months which will provide better journeys for drivers and improve road safety.

“We have already completed 3 resurfacing schemes and replaced the reflective road studs and repainted the white lines from Musley Bank to Pickering and at Whitwell Duals.

“Work is continuing along the A64 to install a new pedestrian barrier and clear the vegetation. This work requires a lane closure overnight and is set to finish at the end of this week.”
