A RYEDALE pub is aiming to get a record number of quizzers through the door as part of the World's Biggest Pub Quiz.

The Crown pub in Hutton-le-Hole will be one of more than a 1,000 pubs across the country aiming to break the record and raise money for charity at the same time. The quiz will start at 7.30pm on Sunday.

Jake Leonard, manager of the Crown, said: "We do a quiz then anyway, in aid of St Chad's church up the road. But for this one we'll also be raising money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance."

Pubs choose the charities they will donate their money to. Across the country, more than 550 local causes and charities have already been nominated.

The quiz will be co-ordinated by the charity PubAid, which will send out the quiz questions in advance of the night and then it will be started simultaneously across the country by all participating pubs and clubs. It is expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes.

According to the Guinness World Record website, the current record for the world's biggest multi-venue quiz is 2,679 contestants at 39 venues.

"This is going to smash it," said Mr Leonard.

Other Ryedale pubs currently signed up for the quiz are the Coach House at Flamingo Land, the White Bear Inn at Stillington and the Providence Inn at Yedingham.
