THE Milton Rooms, in Malton, will be pounding to the beat of Northern Soul and the grunt and groan of wresting next month, but for those who prefer a more relaxing entertainment you can sit back and enjoy a night of cabaret or blue grass music in the studio.

One of the country’s most successful touring wrestling shows brings its exciting brand of family entertainment to Malton for the first time on Saturday, February 13.

Expect daredevil, edge-of-your-seat moves from Megaslam’s biggest and best stars as a host of American names take to the ring to face the Best of British in an all-out fight to the finish. The organisers promise “high quality, fun-filled entertainment that the whole family can enjoy".

The Milton Rooms sprung dance floor will be shaking again for an all-day event of music and dance on Saturday, February 20, from 2pm to midnight, when followers of Northern Soul from across the country come to listen and dance to their own special brand of music from a top DJ line-up drawn from clubs around North Yorkshire and Teeside.

A surprise star DJ name is also promised. Bar, snacks and a special chill-out room for those who can’t stand the pace will be available.

If it’s more laid-back entertainment you prefer, you can head for the smaller Milton Rooms Studio on Friday, February 5 to enjoy the music of the Crocker Brothers who have been playing and singing bluegrass music for more than 40 years.

With Alex Somerville on bass guitar, John and David Crocker capture the authentic 'brother duet' sound and pathos of early country music.

But don’t sit back for too long – get ready for the pint-sized diva Cat Loud whose five-star show boasts swagger and tenderness, featuring classics from icons Shirley Bassey, Nina Simone, Doris Day and Billie Holiday with music from the likes of Queen, Ms Dynamite and Adele thrown in for good measure.

Cat shares the Studio bill on Friday, February 26, with Finn Anderson. Straddling jazz, folk and pop, Finn's music has drawn comparisons with artists such as Rufus Wainwright and Joni Mitchell.

Tickets for all events are available from the Milton Rooms box office or phone 01653 696240.
