A SPECIAL exhibition of bibles and prayer books will take place in Stonegrave Minster this weekend.

Organised by Hilary Slights, the event aims to highlight the special memories of the 'tools of the trade' on Bible Sunday - the second Sunday in Advent.

Mrs Slights said: "Bibles and prayer books have often been given on occasions such as Christenings and confirmations by godparents.

"Many bibles also became family history books with births, deaths and marriages recorded and handed down from generation to generation."

Mrs Sleights said she hoped to borrow bibles and prayer books from local people and put them on display with a short story connected to each of them.

"Hopefully people will write down why the books are special to them and the story behind them," she added.

"I felt it was a fitting exhibition in the build up to Christmas for people to come and enjoy."

The exhibition will be held on Saturday, 5 and Sunday, December 6, 11am to 3pm.
