A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after getting both his legs trapped in farm machinery.

The man, in his mid-30s, became trapped in a potato grading machine at Butterwick, Malton at about 8.30am today [Wednesday].

The full extent of his injuries is not yet known.

Fire crews from Malton, Scarborough and Sherburn were called and cut the man free. He was then airlifted to hospital by Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "Crews were contacted by ambulance control to a male aged mid-30's who had both legs trapped inside a potato grading machine.

"Crews from Sherburn, Malton and Scarborough were mobilised with an officer. Crews met air ambulance and road ambulance crews at scene and assisted with the release of the casualty using hydraulic cutting equipment.

"The male was taken to hospital via air ambulance with bruising to the legs however the full extent of the injuries sustained are not known at this stage."

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Ambulance Service said they had recieved a call at 8.15am this morning with reports that a man had his legs trapped in a potato grading machine.

"We sent a Rapid Response Vehicle, road ambulance, Hazardous Area Response Team and Clinical Supervisor. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also called.

"The man was transfered to Hull Royal Infirmary by air ambulance."

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said they had been informed of this incident and were making enquiries into the circumstances.
