FORMER Malton Musical Theatre Group principal David Hinde was delighted to find himself opening proceedings in the new Dad’s Army film trailer.

David plays the part of the town crier leading a parade in Walmington On Sea in the remake of the classic BBC sitcom.

The ex-Scagglethorpe resident, who is the real town crier of Bridlington, where the fictional Walmington was filmed, had no idea he would appear in the trailer until it was released last week.

“I just went ‘wow’,” he said. “I played it three or four times just to take it in that there we were right at the start of this new trailer.

“It was wonderful. It exceeded all the expectations that I even had myself. I think it’s going to be a massive, massive hit.

"I’m so so proud to have played a prominent part in that. It was amazing to have all those stars there and to see how professional the company was as they filmed all the scenes.”

David, who holds the record for the world’s loudest recorded town cry with 114.8 decibels, is also chairman of Bridlington Old Town Association and a former York Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society principal.

He said: “It was a ‘wonderful once in a lifetime experience’ and a very special day in Bridlington Old Town’s history.”

A bass baritone singer, he is still a regular performer in Ryedale and recently sung in charity concert at Norton Methodist Church.

The film will be released on February 5 next year, which would have been David’s late father Cyril’s 88th birthday.

As well being shot in Bridlington, the movie was filmed on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, in Pickering, and at Duncombe Park, Helmsley.

Toby Jones and Bill Nighy star as Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Wilson, with Catherine Zeta Jones as the glamorous reporter Rose Winters.

Danny Mays plays spiv Private Walker, Michael Gambon takes on the role of frail Private Godfrey, Inbetweener Blake Harrison will play Private Pike, and Tom Courtenay will be the excitable Corporal Jones.
