A NEW student leadership team has been appointed at Norton College.

The aim of the team is to develop action plans on what they would like to achieve over the year at the school.

Head girl Sam said: "We want all of our students to get the best from a school we are all very proud of, whether it be charity and fundraising events, to getting involved in teaching and learning with the staff to ensuring that all students contribute to the wider college community."

Peter Cotton, head boy, said: "We want to make sure that we support younger students and ensure that all students have a voice about certain elements of the school. We also want to make sure that students receive advice from sixth form students about careers and option choices as we all have had plenty of experience with this."

The students had to apply for the roles and then take part in an interview with headteacher Phil Loftus and head of sixth form, Gemma McDonald.

Mrs McDonald said that with such a committed, hard working student leadership team, they could already see the impact that they would have in the school already.

"We had 26 applications to be part of the student leadership team. I am delighted that the students are passionate about being a member of the team and having a voice within the school," she said.

"Student leadership is important, not only for the school, but to develop leadership skills within students.

"I was impressed with the amount of pride students clearly have in the college. All want to give something back to a college that has served them well so far."
