TWO pupils at Ryedale School have been recognised for their talents.
Rebekah Lally, a Year 11 GCSE musician, has been a member of the Girls Choir (Senior) National Youth Choir of Great Britain (NYCGB) since 2013.
She spent a week of the summer holiday on an NYCGB training course. She received a commendation for her efforts and sang in their concert at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford, in a concert which included the world premiere of eight songs by the US composer Nico Muhly and Antiphon by Jonathon Dove.
Rebekah has now to re-audition for the next level of the choir, the training choir, in the autumn, and later this year she is performing at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Rebekah is also preparing for her ABRSM grade six singing, grade seven piano and grade eight violin exam.
Fellow Year 11 GCSE musician Lizzie Dore has been invited to take part in a North Yorkshire musicians high achievers concert this month.
This invitation came on the back over her trumpet ABRSM grade six exam for which she received a high distinction mark having only started learning the trumpet three years ago.
Andrew Moxon, the school's head of music, said: "Both girls support a wide range of musical activities at Ryedale School, and participated in the school’s European tour in the summer term, the highlight of which was a performance in Cologne Cathedral. They both deserve congratulations for their outstanding musical achievements."
