A MALTON family have raised £1,200 towards Frack Free Ryedale's campaign.

Joy Forbes, husband Ian Conlan and their three children Esther, Ruth and Daisy, said they enjoyed country walks and wanted to do something to help the campaign to oppose Third Energy's application to frack at the KM8 wellsite just outside Kirkby Misperton.

Ian said: "We also wanted to highlight the importance of the health of our children and future generations facing the dangers of potential air, soil and water contamination from fracking, as well as its contribution to global warming and climate change.

"We were joined by local people and families from Malton, Pickering, and Swinton, plus one gentleman from Darlington, on a gloriously warm sunny day to walk 10 miles along footpaths and minor roads from Malton to Kirkby Misperton."

Ian said £650 was raised from the walk itself, and a further £550 from the sale of refreshments, raffle, and donations at Kirkby Misperton Village Hall.

Steve Mason donated lunch to the walkers at Great Habdon, and the Collinson family further refreshment and encouragement at Little Barugh.

Ian said: "The youngest walker was Daisy, who is just five years old, and encouraged by her older sisters and other children and adults managed to walk the full 10 miles.

"We would like to thank all those that supported the walk with donations or refreshments."

Anyone who would like to make a donation can send them, payable to Frack free Ryedale to Joy Forbes, 83 Middlecave Road, Malton, YO17 7NQ, or via frackfreeryedale.org
